Tips to Optimize Speed

What’s the purpose of this setup step?

To help improve the speed and response time of the server, client computer, or both.

• Review the Recommended Hardware Specifications for Control:See the button on the Setup Steps webpage for the http://control.cyriouswiki.com/control_recommended_minimum_computer_hardware_specifications?redirect=1document.

• Check that your overall computer hardware meets or exceeds our specifications. For optimal performance plan to have Intel Xeon Quad-Core Processor (2.8ghz ), 8-16GB of memory, 1000MBit network cards. For fastest performance, upgrade your systems to utilize Solid-State Hard Drives (SSDs). In addition, higher ghz processors are better than more cores where Control is concerned.Tips for your Server:If you have more than 5 users for Control you should think about purchasing SQL Server 2017 Standard Edition x64. This allows you to allocate more computer memory towards SQL server which houses the database for Control. The free version of SQL only allows 1GB of memory, resulting in slower performance in Control. * Tips for both the Server and Client computers: Make sure your computer always has at least 1GB of free memory when everything is open and in use during your busiest time of the day. Memory is a very cheap upgrade to a computer and can result in substantial performance improvements. If you have Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10 it is recommended to have at least 8GB of memory, but preferably 8-16GB.
• Make sure you have a 1000MBit network card, aka Gigabit network card and that your network switches are also 1000MBit. If you have an IT person, have them test that you are getting the proper speeds on the cards. Just because it says it's connected at 1000MBit doesn't mean it's actually sending the data at the higher level speeds. The faster your network, the faster Control will be on your client systems.
• Choose an Anti-Virus application that does not consume many system resources. We recommend utilizing Windows Defender as it covers all basic anti-virus protection and does not consume too much processor or memory. * Don’t use a wireless network. Wireless networking of any type or speed is not supported and is Strongly Discouraged. Control maintains a persistent connection between itself and SQL Server. Due to the constantly varying environment, wireless networking is inherently less stable than a wired connection. When the network fades or drops, even temporarily, Control will be disconnected and any work in progress will be lost. Cyrious technicians are not able to troubleshoot connectivity or stability issues over a wireless network. * Utilizing Control through an offsite VPN connection is not supported.
